Happy Homeowners – Samantha & Owen

Meet Samantha and Owen – two Pennsylvania natives who made their way to the Mountain State roughly eight years ago. Owen came to Elkins in 2012 to study at Davis and Elkins College, and Samantha followed suit in 2015 to be a member of an AmeriCorps program. Now, Owen is employed at VanNostrand Architects based in Buckhannon and Samantha works at LMC & Associates in Elkins. After living in downtown Elkins for five years, the pair decided it was time to purchase their first home together and turned to the HomeOwnership Center for some homebuying education and guidance.

We chatted with Samantha and Owen to find how out the house hunting process was and how the HomeOwnership Center played a role in finding their Randolph County home.

HOC awarded funding to further services

ELKINS, WV – The HomeOwnership Center, Inc., (HOC) is excited to announce it has received a $210,000 grant to assist its efforts to create successful homeowners and provide financial opportunities and affordable loans to potential homebuyers in an eight-county service area from NeighborWorks America. NeighborWorks is a public non-profit organization dedicated to housing and community development.

Celebrating National Home Ownership Month With Half Price Services

Have you been seeing For Sale signs sprouting like summer flowers in people’s front yards lately? We are in the midst of the traditional home buying season, and every year June is recognized as National Home Ownership month. Home ownership is well known as an important ingredient in strengthening local communities; among other benefits, studies show that home owners are happier and more likely to be engaged in their communities, and the children of home owners often are healthier and perform better at school. Because of these important factors, one local organization is particularly dedicated to increasing the number of home owners in our region.

The staff at the HomeOwnership Center, Inc. work every day to create and support successful home owners through credit counseling, education, and mortgage lending. As part of a week-long celebration of community strengthening activities nationally recognized as NeighborWorks Week, and to celebrate National Home Ownership month, the HomeOwnership Center is offering its services at half-price for the month of June. Customers can make an appointment to review their credit report with the HomeOwnership Center’s highly trained staff, or enroll in the June home buyer education workshop, all at a discounted price.

The Program Assistant provides support to the Executive Director, Loan Originator, Home Ownership Advisor and other HOC contracted staff, and helps ensure a smooth process for customers from intake to final service delivery. The position requires an energetic individual who is comfortable working in a consumer-friendly environment assisting customers of all income levels to access home ownership opportunities.
