We are proud to announce that Katherine (Kate) Somers has been hired as the Executive Director of the HomeOwnership Center.
Kate’s career in the housing field spans nearly 20 years. Most recently she served as Program Manager for Highland Community Builders, a local developer of single-family homes in the Highland Meadows subdivision in Elkins. In this position she was responsible for sales, marketing, design, financing and construction management for each turnkey or spec home.
Kate’s leadership of HOC is a coming-home of sorts–she was employed by HOC from 2004-2008 as the HomeOwnership Counselor. Kate moved to Elkins in 2004 from New Mexico, having run the homeownership program for the Greater Albuquerque Housing Partnership for five years.
Kate holds a master’s degree in Community & Regional Planning from the University of New Mexico and a BA in Latin American Studies from Vassar College. She resides in Elkins with her husband and two children and is a member of the Elkins Planning Commission and the Rotary Club of Elkins.
Kate is currently in Cuba with the Davis & Elkins College Sustainability Program students, returning January 21. In the meantime, you may wish her well at [email protected].
The HOC is the region’s only nonprofit dedicated to helping people become homeowners by offering financial education & counseling along with long-term, low-interest mortgage loans. Learn more about the HomeOwnership Center at www.hocwv.org.
